Resource
Hacker
Sumatra
PDF Viewer
.

PDF

Portable
Adobe
Acrobat

Sumatra PDF Viewer

My good friend Alfardan has posted The Raven
on his Blog.

It is my favorite poem too!
Another great poem by the fabulous Edgar Allan
Poe
.

It is a long poem and I
don’t think that posting the whole text would encourage people
to read. What I can do is posting an audio & a funny satire of the poem
which was an episode of the famous Simpsons T.V show. I think
that this will make the bloggers more interested in the poem

First I will post the video

Then the audio

What do you think about this poem now?

Death of a Book April 15, 2007

I have written this article for Alghad Newspaper, and I want to share it with you.

Death of a Book

I am not just a group of papers,” said the book to his human audience. He sighed “for many years I have enlightened & entertained you. Many scientists would have never reached who they were without my help as I transferred the experience of the previous scientists to them.”

“But we are not scientists,” replied one of the ungrateful humans.

The book looked at the human in a caring way and said, “I know you are not scientists, but you would never enjoy your life without the help of science, most of the inventions are the result of many years of researching.” The book adds, “For ages, people read books for fun and to learn new things.”

Another human stood up, “Yes you did teach scientists and entertain us for years, but today, the fact is that you are dying. After the invention of computer, scientists began to turn to computers, as it is more flexible and it can store a huge amount of information in a small computer, unlike books. Even schools and universities are beginning to minimize the use of books, and it started teaching on the internet (E-learning) instead, which is a good thing because we do not understand anything from learning from the books.”

A third man interrupted “Did I hear entertainment? Nobody reads books for entertainment nowadays; it is a waste of time, why should we spend hours reading a novel while we can watch a movie in a couple of hours?”

At that moment the book burst into tears, “I know I am dying, but at least you should read me if not for entertainment, then for education. It is not my fault the teachers use me in a wrong way, I am not meant to be memorized, but should be understood. How sad am I, the same inventions that I produced, the Television and Computer, are the same things that would end my life!

After hearing this sentence, all the attendance left the hall, leaving the book, who enlightened them in the past, in a total loneliness.

But could loneliness cause the death of the book?

Any comments or feedback?

Perfect Motherhood! March 16, 2007

In the first week of school, I saw an ugly image that cannot be forgotten. What appears to be a mother is carrying her child in a strange way at the university. She must have no experience with children, as she was HUGGING the poor kid. Anyway, I didn’t pay much attention to that scene because sometimes children becomes energetic and might want release themselves from the hands.

Later on that day I saw the woman again, she was carrying the child in the same way! Which made me conclude that SHE CAN’T EVEN CARRY HER OWN CHILD! She was hardly holding him, and he was inches away from slipping away from her hands!

After three weeks, I still remember this encounter with that unpleasant moment, and I ask myself “If the mother can’t hold her child, HOW THE HELL WOULD SHE BE ABLE TO RISE HIM?”

Motherhood is not funny game, if somebody thinks that she lack responsibility, then my advice is not to be a mother before learning basic things about children and how to take care of them. A good start would be to look how mothers look after their baby.

Finally, mothers are not made automatically, they should be guided when seen doing mistakes in their way of treating their children. Where is her family, or the family of her husband? It won’t take much time in teaching her the basic things like carrying the kid or changing the diaper!

PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME SEE THIS SCENE AGAIN!

Goodbye Semester! February 8, 2007

Spring Vacation began a couple of weeks ago; I already feel boredom I have never felt before.

17 days left until we begin the new semester, just like every year, I wait with enthusiasm. Waiting to unleash my temporary energetic brain.

But before that, I looked to the mess which was made last semester.  Books are near the PC, tons of handouts which were given to me by doctors are everywhere, pens & pencils rolling all over the place.

Yes, it is time to clean up, I removed the books and put them where they belong, and took the handouts to trash?  No I didn’t, the handouts are far more valuable to me than books, as I opened the box which contains the old handouts, memories of the last years rushed into my brain.  After picking some old handouts, memories grew bigger, sending me back to my first day at the awesome University of Bahrain.

It was two years and a half when I first stepped on the campus. It was queer to have a majority female classmates and a couple of guys that I don’t know, and to spend 5 hours doing nothing but waiting for the bus to come, with no friends to talk to.

Suddenly, I woke up from this flashback and continued to look at the handouts regaining more memories during the process.

After that, I placed the handouts of the last semester with the old handouts while I told myself that by doing this, I am not only putting papers inside a box, but also making some memories to remember at the end of next semester!

Research Paper January 11, 2007

Delaying is something I am used to, I delay any task given to me whether I have one day to finish it or 1 year. I can tell stories about the bad management of time, but would I ever learn from my mistakes?

Well I had to write that research paper about History and its effects on human beings for the American history course. As usual I started writing the research very late, began working on the research paper at 3 PM.

Two hours passed, spent on jumping from a web site to forum, it was time to pray but only three lonely lines were written.

After a short break I came back to the computer, realized that I have to write five pages in that day, erased the written lines & began to write the introduction, visited Wikipedia and typed the magical word “History” the result came back in seconds, I took the information I needed and began to it.  Soon there were nothing more to write in the introduction, making me face the body of the research, now I need to use the books I have and a reliable internet articles, I open my books, and started to Google for useful information.

In less than an hour I have wiped out all the resources I had, the result was only one page, then it was time to use my imagination, I remembered what has been written in the introduction, which opened my eyes to new horizons.  I could actually think of the things that we learn from history (thanks to my doctor and previous readings) all what I had to do is to link what we have learned with new theories produced by the brain.

Bedtime arrived, “I will only sleep when I finish the research,” I said.

I was creating ideas and supporting them with quotes from here and there nightlong, I finished writing the fourth page just minutes before Al-fajir prayer.

After finishing prayer, I was reminded about a test that I should have done before, Oh that what I really needed!  Anyway, I done the test in minutes, and then back to that research paper, I stared at what I have done in order to write the conclusion but by that time my brain was clogged and nothing came to my mind.

After half an hour of staring I gave up, it is time to get ready for the university. “Those useless days of copy & paste research papers are gone for good,” I murmured.

I went to the university and the day started, at the US history course I had to promise the teacher that the research would be in his hand before the end of the day.  After the end of class, I had a rest, and then to the lab I went, I hardly wrote the conclusion as my eyes were closing due to lack of sleep.  After all, I FINISHED IT then handed it to the doctor and left his office.

Later on, a friend of mine asked me if I had a good lesson out of this, I told him that I had a good lesson indeed. At the moment I was whispering deep in my soul “Managing to do a required task in a little time is what makes us good time managers!”
